On 23 August 2024, the MedicalMet team swapped clinic dashboards for racing helmets at Evolt Karting in Malaysia. The mission: a full-blown Grand Prix team building event — complete with timed heats, podium finishes, and trophies for the fastest drivers. It was loud, competitive, and exactly the kind of energy our team thrives on.
Why We Chose Go-Kart Racing for Team Building
Building software that clinics depend on every day takes focus, communication, and trust. Those same qualities show up on a go-kart track — reading the circuit, timing your moves, and knowing when to push harder. We picked Evolt Karting because it offered a Grand Prix format that gave everyone a fair shot at the podium, regardless of experience.
There is something about racing at speed that levels the playing field between developers, designers, and business teams. No one cares about your job title when the lights go green.
How Did the Grand Prix Format Work?
The event followed a Grand Prix-style structure. Each participant completed multiple heats on the circuit, with lap times recorded and cumulative scores tallied across rounds. This format rewarded consistency over a single lucky lap — the drivers who stayed sharp across every heat rose to the top.
Between rounds, the energy stayed high with teammates cheering from the sidelines, comparing lap times, and plotting their next overtake. The indoor track at Evolt Karting kept conditions consistent, so there were no excuses — just pure driving skill.

Trophies, Prizes, and Bragging Rights
At the end of the Grand Prix, the top three drivers in each category took home special gifts and trophies. The podium ceremony was a highlight — complete with celebrations you would expect from a real racing event.
Beyond the prizes, the real reward was the bragging rights that followed. A few lap times have been permanently pinned in our team group chat, and the phrase "I could have taken that corner faster" became a running joke for weeks after.
What Makes Team Building Worth It for a Tech Company?
At MedicalMet, we build AI-powered treatment notes, automated appointment reminders, and tools that serve clinics across Southeast Asia. That work requires tight collaboration between engineering, product, and customer-facing teams.
Activities like go-kart racing create shared memories that carry back into the office. When a developer and a business lead have raced wheel-to-wheel, the Monday standup just feels different. We invest in team building because strong teams build better products — and better products mean better outcomes for the clinics we serve.
- Breaks down silos between departments — everyone is equal on the track
- Builds trust through shared, high-energy experiences
- Recharges the team after intense product sprints
- Creates inside jokes and stories that strengthen day-to-day collaboration
“Great products come from great teams. We build software that healthcare professionals trust with their daily operations — that starts with a team that trusts each other.”
Looking Ahead
The 2024 Grand Prix at Evolt Karting set a high bar for future MedicalMet team events. As our team grows and our product evolves, we plan to make team building a regular tradition — because the energy we bring off the track directly fuels the work we do for clinics across Malaysia, Singapore, and beyond.
